Changing Program Preferences

Open the Tools menu and select Preferences to open the Preferences Panel.

To highlight search terms within an article:

If you want your search term to appear as bold text in any article you are viewing, change the 'Bold search term in articles' option to 'Yes'.

To stop the Home page from loading when the application starts:

When the application starts for the first time, you will notice that you are presented with a Home page that acts as a 'welcome' page. It contains links to all of the Search and Browse features within the program, as well as helpful tips and special messages from Britannica. If you would like to disable this screen from appearing, choose 'No' from the 'Display homepage on startup' drop-down box.

To load new articles in the same window:

By default, each new article you open from the Search Results or Alphabetical Browse will open in a new window. When researching multiple topics at the same time, new windows open in the 'Cascade' style, which can be a helpful feature. To disable this behavior and have all articles, images, and videos open in a single window, change the 'Window Behavior' option to 'Single.' When 'Single' is selected, each content type will have one window that will be reused, instead of spawning separate windows for each new topic.

To change the font size of on-screen articles:

Select a Text Size from the 'Screen text size' drop-down box. Three font settings let you select the size of article text:

If you do not see the article text change size, close and restart the Britannica program. Please note: Graphical text in the program interface is not affected by this setting and cannot be changed.

To change the font size of printed articles:

Select a Text Size from the 'Printed text size' drop-down box. Three font settings let you select the size of article text:

To change the default Library:

By default, the Britannica program will remember which Library you last used, and will automatically select that Library the next time you launch Britannica Student Library CD. If you would like Britannica Student Library CD to open to the same Library each time it is launched, simply choose that Library from the 'Default library' drop-down box. Also, you can choose to have the Home page load each time the application is started.
